The Singapore Highway Patrol has just outfitted their fleet of Subaru Impreza WRXs with Mishimoto Radiators to combat the high summer temperatures in Singapore. The climate in Singapore frequently experiences temperatures well over 100 Degrees Fahrenheit for weeks at a time, and members of the Police force were constantly battling overheating issues. In a move to keep their vehicles cool in their region’s extreme summer heat, the Police department installed Mishimoto radiators on the whole fleet of Subarus.

The answer to this questions isn’t clearly answered anywhere so we thought we’d give it a shot since it tends to come back every now and again… So here it comes:

- The transmission coolers on the automatic models are at different places

- The inlet/outlet diameter went from 1 3/8″ (up to 1998) to 1 9/16″ (99-02)

- The biggest difference is that the fan mounts are in different places!

We hope this answers your question…

Rather than pull over after a crash that left him with a dented fender and a blowout, this genius decided to drive 25 kilometers in broad daylight without a tire, all the way to the shop. What you’re seeing is what’s left of the rim after in grinded on pavement all the way to the shop.

Although this has nothing to do with the spirit of this blog, the level of stupidity was such that this had to be posted.

We recently read on a forum something which we’ve heard many times before in the rad shop: “if you drive a car with a manual transmission and you’re overheating, install the automatic version of that radiator for extra cooling”. That could not be further from the truth. Most of the time (that means not all the time), the radiator for the manual and automatic version of the same car are identical except that the automatic version has a built-in transmission oil cooler. You can actually use the same radiator in both vehicles. If your car is a manual, but you have a radiator that’s for an automatic, ignore the transmission oil cooler. That’s all.

If you’re overheating and you don’t know why, get your car to your mechanic.

If you’re overheating because you’ve recently modified your engine and it now generates more heat than your radiator can handle, don’t waste your money on a radiator for an automatic transmission. Instead, invest in a racing radiator. It will increase cooling efficiency by up to 30% so you can stop staring at your heat gauge and focus on driving!

So what if your car has a modified engine and an automatic transmission? If that’s the case, you’ll need an external transmission oil cooler. It sits in front of the radiator or somewhere close to the front end of the car. That’s your best bet. If you’re gonna do it, do it right.

Over the last few years, we’ve often been amazed at how difficult it is for Skyline owners to find replacement radiators for their cars. There isn’t a week that goes by that someone shows up at the shop hoping we could salvage a destroyed bent-out-of-shape scrapyard radiator. Unfortunately for them, Skyline owners drive their Skylines hard so when they crash them, they crash them hard.

When only a couple of tubes are cut, it’s possible to patch them up but taking a torch to an aluminum radiator for anything more than that just destroys it. Unlike so many other JDM cars like the Silvia, Sentra, 240SX, 300ZX, Trueno, and RX7, cars that were either sold in North America or have a close “cousin” that was sold here from which they can “borrow” parts, nothing fits a Skyline.

We had no choice, we started showing Koyo and Mishimoto racing rads and faced with a lack of options, many Skyline owners end up making the radiator the first step in what if often a long journey to building the sick car that we all dreamed of when we were growing up playing video games, driving the mythical Skyline and destroying the competition. What we didn’t realize for a while is that many of those Skylines, especially the R32 and R33 coming in from Japan once belonged to some serious Japanese car lovers and many of them are already modded right off the boat. We’ve seen countless Skylines with upgraded twin-turbos, intake and exhaust systems, racing seats, etc. that it turned out that adding a racing radiator to the mix was not the first step but really the next logical step in the modification of a car that was designed to rip whatever drove beside it. We’re proud to be a part of it and nothing makes us happier than seeing the look on the face of someone who’s been looking for a rad for weeks, or getting an email or a phone call from a delighted customer. It makes our day whenever it happens. Thank you!

We are proud to announce that we are now a proud distributor of Mishimoto parts. All aluminum racing radiators, intercoolers, cooling fans, fan shrouds, thermostats, radiator caps, air diversion plates, and hose kits are now in stock and ready to ship, in Canada.

When we met the Mishimoto team at the SEMA show in Las Vegas in 2008, we were immediately impressed with the product they were presenting. Having a great deal of experience selling radiators and cooling systems, we new we were looking at a fantastic product. So many of the aluminum racing radiators we’ve seen over the years are just not up to par. We were growing tired of cheaply made cores, poorly bonded components, and sloppy welds are all too common and while a shinyt aluminum top tank may look nice when showing off an engine, the true test of any performance parts comes when it’s time to drive. Mishimoto was different and we knew that for the start. These guys (and girls) have a fresh vision of what racers and enthusiasts are looking for: performance and style! Our immediate reaction was “we want it… all of it!”

… and now we have it…

Mishimoto products are among the best available on the market today. Despite being significantly more affordable than their competitors, Mishimoto products are designed by telented engineers and technicians and manufactured with the greatest care and attention to detail. Designed both for style and performance, Mishimoto products are sure to make an impact on anyone looking under your hood, or staring at your tail lights when you leave them in your dust. It’s what keeps us running cool, lap after lap, quarter mile after quarter mile, race after race…
